Did you know that October is National Kitchen and Bath month? It is also a great time to spruce up and remodel. Many people do not realize how much a kitchen or bath remodel can improve and enhance the beauty and comfort of their home.

Putting your house on the market?

A newly updated kitchen or bath can be the one redeeming feature that you need to make the sale. Perspective home buyers will be delighted to see new appliances and up-to-date technology in the kitchen and bath. You can expect to receive 90-100% return for the cost, but the greatest savings will be the faster sale you attain with a new kitchen or bath. Most buyers in today's market are looking for move in ready homes and remodeling now will give you an advantage over other homes in the area that need to have updates made.

Staying put?

If your goal is to create the Ideal kitchen or bath in a home that you will live in long-term, then you'll certainly want to have as many "bells and whistles" that your budget affords you. Think about what types of updates will be used and enjoyed the most. Do you want a large range with a double oven, or a built in pantry with pull out shelves? Maybe you really need an island added to create a place for gathering in the kitchen, or a spa added to the master bath?

Sarah has been designing custom kitchens and bathrooms for 20 years. She is currently working out of the Roanoke, VA showroom.

Both Wood-Mode and Brookhaven feature solid wood doors and multi-step finishing processes, and both are available in traditional framed construction — where the door is mounted on a front frame — and contemporary frameless construction — where there is no face frame so the door is mounted on the cabinet case itself.
